Password and locking

One password unlocks your whole wallet, all coins included. It encrypts your wallet files on this computer. It isn’t part of your seeds: if you lose it, your seeds still bring your coins back.

Changing it

Wallet › Password, or the lock in the status bar. Enter the current password, then the new one twice. Biscuit re-encrypts the Monero and the Bitcoin and Litecoin files with it.

A strong password from a password manager such as KeePassXC is best. Before you change it, make sure your seeds are written down.

If the old password was weak, keep in mind that changing it doesn’t erase the old encrypted files from your disk: depending on your system, backups or snapshots, copies can remain. Moving to a new wallet with a new seed is the only clean way out.

Locking

  • File › Lock wallet (Ctrl+L) hides everything until you enter the password.
  • Settings › Display: lock after some minutes without activity, or when you minimize the window.
  • Settings › Transactions › Require password to spend asks for it before every payment.

Lost password

Nobody can recover it, us included: there is no account and no reset. Restore the wallet from your seeds and choose a new password.
