Create a wallet

A Biscuit wallet holds Monero, Bitcoin and Litecoin under one password. Creating one takes a few minutes, most of it writing two seeds on paper.

Step by step

  1. In the menu, choose Create new wallet. If a wallet is already open, use File › New/Restore.
  2. Your Monero seed: 16 words (a Polyseed). Write them on paper, in order.
  3. Your Bitcoin and Litecoin seed: 12 words (BIP39). Write them down too, next to the Monero seed, and tick I have written down these 12 words.
  4. Biscuit asks you to type three of the 12 words from your paper, to make sure your copy is right.
  5. Give the wallet a name. Leave the folder as it is, unless you have a reason to change it.
  6. Choose a password. It encrypts the wallet on this computer; a password manager such as KeePassXC can make a strong one for you.

The wallet opens. Before you receive any money, read Seeds and backups.

Why two seeds?

Monero and Bitcoin derive their keys in different ways, and each coin has its own standard. Keeping to the standards means your seeds also work in other wallets: the Monero seed in Feather, Cake Wallet or Monero’s own wallet, the 12 words in Sparrow, Electrum or any BIP39 wallet. Your password, on the other hand, is one for everything.

Options

  • Options › Extend this seed with a passphrase, on the Monero seed page, adds a passphrase to your Monero seed. You’ll need both to restore it. This is not your wallet password: if you don’t know what it is for, leave it.
  • Ctrl+K on the Monero seed page opens a tool that adds dice rolls or coin flips to the randomness of your seed. See Monero seeds.
