Biscuit 1.0.9
Biscuit 1.0.9 is out. Download it for Windows, macOS or Linux. If you already use Biscuit, it will offer you the update.
Wallets open faster
Opening a wallet now takes about a second again. The cryptography library that protects your Bitcoin and Litecoin wallets was built without its optimizations, so turning your password into a key took around seven seconds, and Biscuit does it more than once when it opens a wallet. It’s fixed for Windows, macOS and Linux.
The Journal, in the app
The News tab on Home is now the Journal, like on the website. Each piece shows what kind it is (essay, news, release) and its subtitle, and pinned pieces stay at the top, starting with our manifesto, Cipher and Flight.
Ready at launch
The Journal and the crowdfunding proposals now show as soon as Biscuit opens, from the copy it kept last time, and refresh quietly in the background. When they go through Tor, Biscuit fetches them as soon as Tor is ready, instead of waiting up to a few minutes.
Through our onion in Tor mode
biscuitwallet.com is now also an onion service. In Tor mode, Biscuit gets its prices, the Journal and its updates from our onion address, so that traffic never leaves the Tor network. If the onion doesn’t answer, it falls back to the normal site, still through Tor. And “onion services only” mode gets prices, the Journal and updates again. See our onion service.
A bigger bear
On Windows and Linux, the app icon is now the bear alone, larger, without the white tile around it. On Windows, it shows right after the update, on your shortcuts and in the taskbar. The Mac keeps its own icon.
As always, please verify your download before you install it. Found a bug, or have an idea? Tell us.
